wow. what a year 2020 has been, huh? When you signed up for my newsletter, I promised I’d share positive vibes with you✨ So instead of talking about the global state of the world, today imma share books, Netflix shows, podcast episodes, journal prompts, and lovely music with you :) But before we get started with that, let me fill ya in on how I’m doing :)) I’ve been staying optimistic & doing things that fill me up: this is the first time I’ve EVER committed to a daily yoga practice for over a month. I feel like it’s made such a difference to my wellbeing! Also, as you might know, I recently started studying Astrology! It’s been something I’ve been meaning to do for a while, and I finally took the plunge. I’ll be offering Astrology readings soon, which I’m really excited about. Aaaalso, my relationship with Pabs has been growing in such a beautiful way, and I’m looking forward to sharing more about that in a future podcast episode. For now, I hope you’re staying safe at home and i’m hoping to brighten your inbox with some fun content today :) ✨

This quarantine I’ve been really into reading memoirs. I’m usually the kind of person who loves personal development books, but right now I don’t feel like diving deep into all the things I could/should be doing to be more effective or productive or whatever. We’re all kind of staying afloat these days and doing our best, so self help books are kind of on pause for now (I feel like I’m doing a lot of growing and learning in other ways anyway). I also usually love reading fiction novels, but right now I don’t feel like escaping into imaginary worlds. Which is why I’ve been super into memoirs these days. I want to read books that transport me to another place, and make me forget about the reality we’re living in, if only just for a while. But I also want to learn about other people’s real life stories, their upbringings, their struggles… And that’s what these two books have done for me. After finishing both these books I felt enormous gratitude for my upbringing, my family, my education.

Educated by Tara WestoverThe story of Tara, a girl born to survivalists in Idaho, who steps into a classroom for the first time in her life at the age of 17. It took me a while to get hooked on her story but once it did, I was hooked and shocked by the violence and emotional abuse she went through. |

The Glass Castle by Jeannette WallsUnlike Educated, this book had me hooked from the first chapter. This memoir follows Jeannette, her siblings and their dysfunctional parents. I don’t want to give too much away, but honestly, what a story. Do yourself a favor and read this book! It’s quickly become one of my favorites. |
One not so great thing about this quarantine: my internet stopped working for 3 weeks - therefore I barely listened to music for almost a month. BUT my internet is back so I’ve made some new playlists cuz A LIFE WITHOUT MUSIC IS A LIFE I DON’T WANT TO LIVE IN - enjoy :))

I don’t journal very often, but when I do, I’m reminded of why I love it so much. Yesterday, I was looking through old journals, and I found so much insight & wisdom in my entries. I wasn’t originally planning on sharing TV shows or movies on here, but let’s be real, we’re all binge watching stuff these days :)) so here are a few shows i’ve been enjoying:

UnorthodoxThis 4 episode limited series follows Etsy, a 19 year old woman fleeing from the Hasidic community in Brooklyn. I was captivated by the main character’s story: she’s scared but fierce, and determined to find her path despite being filled with doubt. I saw this show in one sitting & became so intrigued by this strange world, that I ended up watching One of Us, a documentary that follows 3 people who left the community. Both the documentary and the show are available on Netflix.

The Midnight GospelOk, hear me out! I love cartoons - especially the ones made for adults (big fan of Adventure Time and Rick and Morty here). And this show.. WOW. It’s trippy as fuck, while still being incredibly profound. The show’s about Clancy, a spacecaster (basically like a podcaster in space) who interviews living beings on dying planets. Each episode, he interviews someone different, and they talk about drugs, meditation, spirituality, mortality, among other very profound topics. It’s unlike any show I’ve seen before, because the audio and the visuals are completely disconnected. There’s a juxtaposition between the podcast teachings and the visual fever dream that plays out on screen, and it’s a lot to take in. It’s kind of impossible to truly understand everything that’s happening in one sitting: if you watch an episode once, just focusing on the audio, and another time, just focusing on the frenetic action visuals, you’d get two completely different experiences. Which is why this show isn’t really “binge-worthy”. Every episode leaves you feeling a lil tired and overwhelmed, because of the sheer amount of content packed in a 30 minute episode. That’s the longest review I’ve ever written about a Cartoon Show lol but if you’re into weird and deep shit - check it out :)
